Imposter syndrome has a way of lingering—quiet, persistent—even in the studios of seasoned designers. It’s not surprising. We spend our days building brands that look effortless and sound confident. But behind that polish, it’s easy to feel like we’re faking it.
Maybe that’s just part of the job. Design lives in a strange space between instinct and skill, where much of the work is subjective and the rules are mostly made up. When the bar is set by icons and outliers, it’s hard not to feel like you’re falling short.
But that self-doubt isn’t all bad. It keeps us sharp. The designer who questions their place is often the one still pushing, still learning, still trying to find something new. It’s not about being a genius—it’s about staying curious.
If anything, that uneasy feeling might be a sign you’re doing it right. That you still care. That you’re still reaching. And maybe that’s the point: not to arrive, but to keep going.
